Description
-----------
Japanese My Way is a dictionary, flash card and kanji writing (with stroke recognition!) application for Japanese language learning and reference.
Japanese My Way comprises of a 6,500+ kanji dictionary, a 160,000+ word dictionary and 150,000+ sample sentences, entries of which can be added to flash decks for training. You can create and manage your own flash decks to learn the kanji, vocabulary and grammar YOU want to learn.
Japanese My Way also employs a Leitner-SRS based card repetition system showing you the cards you got wrong more often for faster and more efficient learning.
Flash cards are easy to play, just look at the card and then swipe your finger across the screen to turn the card over and see the correct answer. You can also choose which conjugation you wish to practice.
Japanese My Way also includes a unique kanji and kana stroke checker. Write the kanji on screen with your finger and the stroke checker will check it for accuracy and either pass or fail you based on how close you were.
New to version 2.0 are drag+drop games to build kanji and words. Drag and drop radicals from a selection onto their slots to build kanji and see if youre correct. Drag+drop kanji to build compound words from their component kanji. But beware, JMW will find kanji that look similar to the one youre looking for to make it more difficult! ;-)
New to version 3.0, a complete redesign of the user interface. Now you are placed directly into the dictionary for instant reference. The previous gaudy colors have now been replaced with a simpler and more aesthetic color scheme.
New to version 4.0, our most requested feature. Full cloud support for synchronization of flash decks and progress not only across devices but across applications too! You can now use Japanese My Way to look words and kanji up in the dictionary while you are in class, add it directly to your flash decks, and then on the way home, grab your bluetooth headset, switch over to our Hands-Free Sensei application and practice the vocab in the car on the drive back. When you get home, you can grab your iPad and switch over to Kanji Renshuu and then practice writing the new kanji in the context of full sample sentences!

Pros and cons of Japanese My Way app for iPhone and iPad
Japanese My Way app good for
Fantastic value for amazing range of content. I am using this to revise my rusty japanese skills and am truly amazed. Wish this tool was around 15 years ago. A thorough kanji learning tool with extensive dictionary and sentences from beginner to advanced levels. Just missing sound and this would be perfect.
The app comprises a dictionary, a collection of phrases, and--its best feature--a flashcard program that lets one draw characters and check for accuracy, incl. stroke order. These are the main features. I found it much fun to draw characters with this program and the iPad is ideal for this.
I just can confirm, what mshal wrote! This App is huge, got tons of japanese kanji...
This app is great to study kanji and offers an huge amount of japanese sentences and conjugations of any verbs and adjectives- which is very very helpful~
I really enjoy studying japanese with this app and can spend hours with it.
Thank you very much for having developed this app!!
...since the last update im not able to use my flashcards anymore which means I cant access my personal vocab. Very annoying and I hope its going to be fixed soon... Otherwise I use this App on a daily basis as my dictionnary and it works fine. Its also very detailed and helps me a lot in my classes.
Its perfect for learning vocabulary. Sou have also a good dictionary wirhin the app, so you dont have to type in all the words :)
Some bad moments
5 min of programming for the author, and Id rate 5 stars. Great app for learning writing kanji, but unusable:
Please fix:
- upon start annoying message icloud not found. Then upon pressing " understood", app goes to AppStore. What the hell...? I dont wanna mess around with stupid ickoud, just want to learn kanji
- cards should me more shuffled. Now always the same 5-10 cards come, until I perfectly master them, then completely new ones and u forget the just learned. StickyStudy has a better shuffling system to mix new and old cards.
I purchased this for the writing recognition but it is way too inflexible. I had a Japanese native try it and the software couldnt recognize their writing correctly
I previously gave this app 4☆, but Im reducing it to two as I have found that I cannot enter vocabulary lists as they appear in my textbook. The problem seems centred around compound words. e.g. 団体 and 生活 are both in the dictionary, but 団体生活 is not and JMW will not let me add the word as it appears in my textbook vocabulary list to a deck. Similarly, one cannot add a な adjective to a deck. You can add 有名 but not 有名な. There are workarounds, but it is frustrating and its not My Way. I cannot drill the vocabulary lists as they appear in my textbook.
Also, I am still frustrated by how picky JMW is about hiragana. It is annoying to be graded wrong on 難しい because your い is judged incorrect even though it could not be mistaken for any other character.
This app is simply a waste of money. Difficult and cumbersome to use, and the dictionary and example sentences are the same as in other free apps. In short, dont buy it. You get nothing beyond what free resources can provide you.
This app is perfect for practicing my vocabulary and kanji for class. Being able to drill the different word forms is very useful. Writing works well, though sometimes its a little too forgiving and a little more room to draw would be nice.
Flash cards are very smooth and havent found any words not in the dictionary yet. Switching between different types of conjugations for flash cards is awesome! Have to create decks before you can add words from the dictionary, but not a big problem since I create a monthly deck for new words to practice for the month. Recommended!
